Subj:   Session Limits on Loads

From:   Coffing Christopher L

A-Team

Just a quick request for your brain trust on the number of sessions to place in MLOAD jobs.

We have several of our ETL jobs that are using 50 sessions in their MLOADs. This is taking up a lot of the systems resources and I have been discussing this with the ETL team requesting that they decrease the Session number.

The response is "It makes the loads faster." I am sure there is a point of diminishing returns so I ask you this. What is a common practice for setting sessions for the load utilities? Should Sessions be left out of the MLOAD script so they default to MAX? and how is MAX calculated if the Sessions = (n) is not part of the script?

I will keep digging around in my spare time (which I have so much of) to find more information on this subject but I could use some of that "been there, done that" expertise.

Looking forward to your input.

Best Regards
