Anon, I think my message may have been confusing, and I don't want you to think that you have to divide data by division. Model your business first. There is no technical reason that you have to separate data into different databases. It is matter of personal choice to separate tables into logical groups. If the transactions from the 2 divisions are very similar they belong in the same database possibly the same table. Look at the natural keys, if they are the same they belong together. As Michael says "One Version of the Truth." Avoid redundant data and independent data marts whenever possible. If you are going to divide the data, use logical subject areas based on your logical model not the politics of the organization. Mike, thanks for the apology. Don't feel too bad it happens a lot.
