  They may have said "closed" but the mathematical expression (0,1) designates an "open" interval. Looks like the endpoints 0 and 1 are not allowed insofar as the "fraction_description" syntax goes. Note that .0 gives you an error and 1.0 is interpreted as a "count_description" (as the original poster pointed out).  



"Open interval" would eliminate all uncertainty, then? Mathematical notation by itself is not uniform and I think most users pay more attention to the text rather than notation. "Closed interval" is by all means not appropriate in this context.
