The statement "derived tables are obsolete" does not make any sense what so ever in my view....With V2R5 there are some changes as to how the system may elect to materialize data for a "derived table" embedded in a query but that is really just a query optimization technique (and as has been noted in this forum on occasion, may be good or bad depending on your specific situation in which case you have the option to make V2R5 handle derived tables as prior versions of teradata do). If I were you, I would push to talk to someone else at the tool vendor who may better understand what RDBMS technology is all about.....
