Hi Chris, It's very tough to determine a reasonable speed for a mainframe based archive solution, but the speed that you are quoting sounds pretty reasonable to me. A lot is dependent on type of nodes, number of channels, use of channel directors, the availability of cpu and memory resources on the mainframe etc. I would recommend to investigate each of these areas and identify potential bottlenecks. As a FYI: in direct attached BAR solutions (e.g. tape drives attached to the nodes using fibre or SCSI) we are also dealing with a number of variables, but they are limited since the number of components is limited as well. Direct attached solutions will range from 25Gb/Hr/Drive (5150/DLT7000) to 120Gb/Hr/Drive (5380/LTO-2 or 9940B). Regards, Ysbrand Ysbrand Bergman
