Subj:   Re: Does Informatica +really+ force MultiLoad worktables into the target database?

From:   Chris Coffing

Thanks Dwight...

I am beginning to think you care about me... Hope you are doing well.

We are running Informatica 6.1 on Win2K...

I have searched several times in Informatica to determine how they let this feature slip... Setting the database for the work tables... should be a simple feature and a great security enhancement for Informatica but it is not there... (please if I am wrong correct me)

We have found if you run your workflow, capture the ctl file, edit in the WT_ ET_ and UV_ ... save and set as read only, that Informatica will try to create the file again and fail but is does not abort the job.

We ignore the ctl file creation error in our logs and the workflow runs fine...

There is a lot of script editing to make the changes but it provides a more secure production environment.

Something to consider: The only thing we have accomplished is to revoke the Create table and Drop Table rights for the Informatica ETL user in production. The ETL work area is still open to the ETL user... The Informatica ETL user still have insert update and delete rights on the production database... but we have greatly reduced the creation of tables from the ETL users in production...

I like the idea of using views to update the production areas... Adds a new security dimension to explore...
