When you do it on column the stats go to TVFields and on index it goes to the indices. But it lets you do both even though the stats on the column is collected and is available it goes on to recollect on the index? May be because the stat-engine does that on the base table vs. the index sub table based on the command request. I wish Teradata get rid of this redundancy.
