The number of sessions depends on the number of amps you have plus two control sessions.

The number of sessions you set from mvs is supposed to be a multiple of the number of Pes you have connected.

On larger systems, the default can leave you with an awful lot of sessions logging on. Logging on is fairly resource intensive so determining an optimal number of sessions for utilities pays off more on larger systems.
