The rule: Use multiple sessions when you are accessing less than all AMPs. You are accessing fewer than all AMP when you're using a UPI, USI, or a NUPI. If your process is going to access all AMPs, then use the default amount of sessions by leaving the session parm out of your script. This way Teradata will do what it needs to do. Even in cases where you tell Teradata to use a bunch of sessions, however you are using all AMPs, Teradata is smart enough to use only 1 session. I think the max number of sessions per platform is as follows: WINDOWS=16 If you use too many sessions it could hamper performance just as using too few sessions.
