We are currently using Informatica 6.1 from Oracle to Teradata.

You will need to do a little extra scripting to enhance the overall features in 5.1... You will see...

You are limited to MLOAD for loading the data. Do not use ODBC it is too slow... In regards to MLOAD you will not be able to have any USI on the tables (Unique Secondary Index) when you load.

You might consider loading into staging tables in Teradata then insert/select into production...

The control files that are generated in Informatica can be set to Read only... This will stop the regeneration of these control files every time you load. This will not create any errors that stop the process.

You can also edit these control files to enhance security.

We edited the control files so we could point the WT, ET and UV tables to a tempDB so the Inforatica USER cannot create and drop tables in the production area... Informatica does not support this redirection feature out of the box...

All in all Informatica is working for us. It creates the MLOAD control files, it kicks off the MLOAD and the data is loaded... It does this based on the schedule that is set within Informatica...

A suggestion about 5.1... If you can get to 6.1 ASAP or before you start this process you will find that it is completely different then 5.1 ... Major changes in the interface and it will also support TPUMP... You may want to use TPUMP if you are going straight into Production tables...

Hope this helps...
