On cost - I think it is far more important to look at the Total Cost of Ownership. The number of DBAs you would need to manage a multi-
TB Oracle installation would be far greater than the number needed for a similar Teradata installation. Management functions are far
easier.
Parallel Processing - the key advantage that Teradata has is that the query processing is very much in tune with the way data is stored -
one of the advantages of the primary index. Able developers can write super-efficient scripts for Oracle as well, but the advantage for
Teradata resides in that the designer has far greater control... not directly applicable perhaps, but it is more like an OO design moving
the critical decision making higher up, giving a lot less freedom to developers to make mistakes.
