I received a few questions from Teradata customers on this thread. 
Quoting a Teradata developer: 
"Named-Pipes ARC" essentially uses the ASF product and a little Unix magic to connect an ARCMAIN process executing an ARCHIVE statement
to an ARCMAIN process executing a RESTORE or COPY statement to effect a high-speed data movement from one Teradata server to another. 
This piece of software remains available only as a Teradata Professional Services engagement.
