Hi,

It is possible, but not simple to use Microsoft Analysis Server to do this. The product gives you a few possible architectures that can be used to do it.

I have helped put together architecture and implementations at a couple of Teradata sites that could support this - but since the data is sourced from the operational system to Teradata on a nightly basis we update the multidimensioal (MOLAP) database right after the nightly data warehouse load. If the data warehouse were updated more frequently we could gear up the MOLAP update cycle to match it. The multidimensional databases have current and historical transaction state history almost to the detail level.

There used to be a white paper on MSDN that described a ROLAP architecture for doing this - I did a quick search and couldn't find it - it had a title something like 'Real Time OLAP'.

If you would like more details please contact me off-list.

Cheers,

Bob Doss
