In response to your question: "Could the increased processor speed and additional RAM overcome the loss of performance through a reduced number of VPROCS?" The answer is yes. Either now or at some time in the future it will become yes. Answering your question requires a computation of performance called "TPerf". TPerf numbers come from the Teradata tool called the "Choosing Calculator". This tool is used to calculate a performance number based on multiple hardware configuration variables. The calculations of mhz are too simplistic to be reliable. I recommend that you give your pre-sales engineer a call and ask what configuration choices can be made.
