Whenever you kill a job on unix you should always use kill first as this allows the job to tidy itself up first. Only use kill
-9 as a last resort as it is an immediate untrappable kill and doesn't allow the job to run any clear up processing.
Also, the session on teradata may be in an aborting state which you will want to leave running until it has rolled back any changes.
