Subj:   Re: Long Term Data Archival from Teradata

From:   John Dubery

We use Arcmain exclusively for our archives, and also use the archives for most of our backups. MVS in general, and TLMS in particular, manage the datasets and tapes for us.

This brings significant operational ease BUT also has the drawbacks you mentioned: Arcmain formats are not guaranteed (& have changed once) and we are locked-in to one database technology.

We are considering a solution that is more technology-independent: Platinum Unloads from DB2 (one of our warehouse components) and FastExport from Teradata, stored with a metadata dataset from which we can generate load jobs.

But our conversion would be huge. We have 75Tb of off-line data, mirrored on duplex tapes.

Regards,

John
