Typically the ones to choose for compression are those where you will get a lot of disk space savings by using the COMPRESS feature.
Under current release of Teradata this means a column which has a significant number of rows with the same value (and possibly also
contains lots of NULLs). With Teradata v2r5 you'll be able to specify multiple COMPRESS values per column (I think up to 5).
Don't forget that you can't compress PI columns or VARCHARs.
