Fastexport will put a 2 byte length indicator at the start of every record. This, as far as I know, always happens. Any varchar field will also get a 2 byte length indcator at the start of the output field, but as Wayne notes, it is easy either by use of cast or format to prevent these from being exported. You will also get a hex 0A at the end of every record.
