Subj: | | Study from home sql course??? |
|
From: | | Alfino, Francesca M |
Hello All,
I work for a company that is spread out coast to coast and anyone with an id can log onto Teradata and write SQL. Those who are not
techies tend to write a lot of product joins and without training do not understand how to fix or code their sql for performance. Sounds
familiar? The problem is that given the economy, travel for training (much less training) is not an option.
Ergo, I am searching for a study from home type sql class. Specifically, I want something that requires labs be done to teach things
like why do an explain, you cannot return millions of rows across a LAN which nobody reads anyway, and how to debug sql and the difference
between select distinct vs group by. Okay that is a lot to ask. But off the shelf sql classes tend to not teach how to best use Teradata
and that is the problem. If I can find a homework based training course, I can add company specific information to it and create a win-win
or so I hope. The goal in this is that before someone can develop sql that gets distributed (maybe before a Teradata id is given), they
have to pass the class especially if they are a developer.
If anyone has written such a class that they can share or knows of one, please let me know. My direct email is below in case anyone has
comments they prefer not to post to the list. However, I suspect there are others on the list who might be interested in such a course.
