Subj:   Teradata And EMC SAN space

From:   Thomas Buehlmann

Does anybody have any experience using Teradata (MP-RAS based) with disks from an EMC SAN?

We are currently looking into a 32+ system and have been asked to consider this solution. From my experience with TD I have a problem seeing the benefits. Would assume TD wants to have pretty much full control over the disk as possible. Furthermore disks cannot be shared with other applications and disk attachments should be pretty much 1 to 1 (plus failover).

So in summary any other SAN benefit than the backup goes unused. The premium we still pay on EMC SANs and the potential difficulty to grow SAN space as we grow nodes does not make this a preferred solution.

Any opinions? or even better experiences?

Cheers

Thomas
