This came as quite a surprise to me back in the DBC1012 model 3 days (1990?). However, over a large table it appeared to give a more accurate answer. Rounding up over a large number of decimal values can over-state the result.

I'm pretty sure there was a detailed explanation in the old manuals that I once read.
