Thanks for the sys_calendar suggestion. I actually tried that solution but gave up because the maximum date I find in our sys_calendar is 12/31/2100. I am dealing with dates larger than this (and also dates smaller than the 1/1/1900 minimum of the table). Is there some Dip script or something to populate the sys_calendar with a wider range of dates or any other suggestions for checking decisively whether a character values is a valid date?
