Imagine the classic scenario - we want today's sales from an Oracle db on Unix. Batch unloads and de-queuing messages are both
problematic due to performance constraints.
So, our attention turns to ETL tools. I (mistakenly?) thought I'd read somewhere recently that one or more of these tools has the
ability to go into Oracle, and other databases, and unload the data at a nuts 'n' bolts level, bypassing the DBMS. Is this correct? If so,
how does it know where only today's sales are?
Thanks,
Paul Johnson.
P.S. Has anyone actually got hold of any of the revision notes from Coffing DW? I ordered the full set in February but many emails have
elicited no reply as to when they might appear.
