If you are new to Teradata, you DON'T want to write using Cursors. They will make Teradata just like all the other non-parallel DBMS's. Also, I would contend that there is NO PROBLEM that you can't solved with SQL alone. Make this your goal and you'll not only get better SQL but always better performance. Your best bet is to get a good book/course notes on Relational Theory and start there. Understand how Set theory works and apply SQL to relations - not Cursors to records!

Cursors BAD - SQL Good!

Just my thoughts for what they are worth on today's market!
