Christopher, Not sure if this exactly fits your needs but... Using ARC as your backup/recovery software, you can run the archive through your mainframe and then run the restore from unix. There is an ARC parameter which says that the tape was created on the mainframe (this causes ARC to do the necessary ebcdic to ascii conversion). Providing that the physical tapes can be read by the hardware in each environment, the s/w already exists to achieve what I think you're after. If the speed of the archive over a channel extender is causing you problems then have you considered moving physical tapes between the two sites? Maybe not high-tech, but possibly efficient enough to meet your needs? Cheers, Dave Ward Analytics Ltd: Information in motion (www.ward-analytics.com)
