Dieter, Volume 5 of the Teradata SQL Reference manuals has a complete description of the functions. Position is the ANSI equivalent of our old Index function which behaves similarly to your charindex function. You would use substring for both the 3rd and 4th columns in your projection, but you'd have to do some arithmetic to get the starting point for the 4th parameter to emulate the right function.
