I would have to agree with everything David has said thus far and would only add that this is not a DWH unique situation. Whenever two
or more systems need to share/exchange information, some understanding has to be reached about the content and format of the information to
be exchanged. In my experience, it is generally best to fix these types of data formatting/content issues wherever the data is initially
collected if at all possible as it is usually the case that the dirty data may be causing problems for various business processes through
out the enterprise. The DWH may be just be the most recent and visible one. Of course, this may not always be a viable business option as
each circumstance is different and there may be other, more cost effective options to massage the data after the fact at some point that
will make it "clean enough"....Neil
