Subj:   GLOBAL TT against VOLATILE T

From:   Yves Mackels

Hi,

What is the advantage of using a GLOBAL TEMPORARY table instead of a VOLATILE table?.

GLOBAL TT have entries in the data dictionnary and VOLATILE TT not. Does it means that I have to create GLOBAL TT (and not VOLATILE TT) when I often DROP/CREATE the same table? I really don't see any big advantage of using GLOBAL TT instead of VOLATILE TT.

At our Teradata site, some daily processes are often create and drop the same table for intermediate result in their "bteq" script. Is this the one and only case where creating GLOBAL TT would be an advantage compared to create VOLATILE TT?.

Is there any other Teradata site where you have found a big advantage for distinguishing the use of these two kind of tables?

What are your Teradata policy for managing this kind of tables?

For the moment I think that setting up the tempspace equal to the spoolspace is a good idea. Am I right?

Thank you for any suggestion, ideas,

Mackels Yves
