I think you may be correct. Using a global temp table means that you can collect statistics on it (which you cannot do on a volatile temp
table) and this may be very important to your processing. Obviously, if your processing doesn't require the existence of statistics - and a
lot of processing doesn't - then I don't think this aspect makes any difference.
