VARCHAR MVC uses algorithmic compression. It is one of the features that requires DBSControl general 65 to be set to true.

Use of the following 13.10 features requires DBSControl general 65 to be TRUE, and therefore precludes backdown on upgraded systems:

- Algorithmic compression for column values

- Data block compression

- Data block merging during full table operations

- Temporal table support

- Timestamp-based partition elimination

- Time zone strings
