Say I started a process of daily CHECKPOINT WITH SAVE and ARCHIVE JOURNAL on 2012-09-01, named my checkpoints based solely on day of the week,
and never did DELETE JOURNAL. Then by this point I would have accumulated a CHKMON from 2012-09-03, one from 2012-09-10, one from 2012-09-17. If I
say ROLLFORWARD to CHKMON, it will stop at 2012-09-03 because that will be the first CHKMON encountered.
Think of the journal as having three separate areas: Active, Saved, Restored.
When you do CHECKPOINT WITH SAVE, Active rows are moved to Saved. When you ARCHIVE the journal, the entire contents of the Saved area placed
on tape.
When you do DELETE SAVED JOURNAL (and only when you do DELETE SAVED JOURNAL), rows are purged from Saved. Otherwise they accumulate. When you
RESTORE the journal, whatever was archived gets placed in Restored.
