When you use permanent journals, you are responsible not only for checkpointing "active" to "saved" subtable so you can archive, but also explicitly deleting "saved" records from the journal when appropriate. ROLLFORWARD / ROLLBACK by default delete the "restored" subtable, but ARCHIVE JOURNAL never deletes the "saved" subtable. Note that DELETE JOURNAL purges the entire subtable, there is no way to filter selected records.

While you could opt to purge journal records every time you archive the journal, you typically will want to accumulate checkpoints in "saved" until your next full backup. For example, a weekly job might: archive the table but retain the lock, checkpoint with save and archive the journal , delete the saved journal, then release the lock on the table.

Hi,

I didn't understand it clearly. Could you elaborate more. Or could you please explain with an example?

Thanks

Roopalini
