Subj:   Re: Error 3278: No Monitor Session available

From:   Dave Wellman

Hi Ahmed,

A couple of things. Yes, you're correct that there are 4 monitor sessions per PE at a maximum.

Firstly, what application(s) is/are failing with this message? Is it Teradata Manager, PMON etc ?

How much time was there between the error message and you running your sql below ? If you are running Teradata Manager or Viewpoint then there are a number of data collectors which will logon using the monitor partition. These are typically only logged on for a short time, so is it possible that some monitor sessions logged off between the time of the error and your sql?

Also, if you are on TD12 or higher, is it possible in your environment that someone is using the UDF's that replicate most of the PM/API data? Although you execute those using a regular sql session, it is my belief (based on hitting this same error code) that these udf's logon to the monitor partition internally.

Cheers,

Dave
