You should never drop MLOAD error, work, or log tables until after RELEASE MLOAD succeeds. That way if you were in APPLY phase you still have the option to restart & continue. The sequence matters. RELEASE MLOAD IN APPLY is a last resort and should rarely if ever be used. There is no way to determine how many inserts/updates/deletes were applied already or to back them out. Better to restart and let MLOAD complete if at all possible. Also note that for FastLoad there is no "release" statement but you can do BEGIN LOADING / END LOADING (with no INSERT) to release the lock. Again, don't drop error tables until after releasing the lock or you will lose this option. Finally, note that original poster asked about "restart", specifically in application phase, not "start over". Those are different things.
