Subj:   Re: How to compress timestamp type

From:   Gregg, William

Hi Xuefeng -- I don't believe U can compress timestamp attributes with a list of values per MVC.

U may compress timestamp if it is null -- eg.:

     attribute_TS TIMESTAMP(0) COMPRESS

Locally, pre v13.10, MVC produced CurrentPerm savings of around 25-30% per table. Using v13.10 capabilities permitted compression of VARCHAR and added another 25-30% savings per table. On average, our big tables use half the PermSpace of the Uncompressed version.

A comment on the data behind the reporting above, there is a lot of VARCHAR in this shop.

Good Luck.

Rgrds,

Bill Gregg
