Subj:   Clearing a Comment from an object

From:   DWellman

Hi folks,

A question from a class today and no, it's not overly important but I'd be interested in the answer.

When you create an object the 'Comment value' for that object is NULL.

You can change the comment by issuing: COMMENT ON TABLE t1 AS 'this is a comment';

How do you change the comment back to a NULL ?

If you use " COMMENT ON TABLE t1 AS ''; " then you correctly get the commentstring set to a zero-length string (which is not the same as NULL).

I tried COMMENT ON TABLE t1 AS NULL; but that failed with a 3706 syntax error (TD 13.0).

So, apart from running an UPDATE statement directly against the underlying DBC table, can you change the comment for an object back to NULL?

Cheers,

Dave
