You may well find that the issue is actually related to the data interface more than the tool - ODBC vs Teradata CLI. ODBC has a habit of wanting to translate things for your 'convenience', both on the outbound query and on the inbound data, unless you modify several of the standard settings, whereas CLI does none of that.
