The last I heard, and granted it was awhile ago, there were differences even in 13.
I believe the rewrite will NOT occur if there exists a "With" , "Having", "Sample", "Random" or "order by" clause for instance.
My notes also have something about this rewrite not occurring if there are aggregrations or OLAP in the assign list.
Hopefully, someone will correct me and tell me this is wrong. . . .
