I should not post from blackberry as what I meant to say was it may not be the union. My problem was unicode data in dbc.dbql but not I PDCRDATA.dbqlsqtbl_hst. A4 stated had to force translation to make it work. The query contained japanese character string. Sorry for causing confusion.
