| Why avoid the real fun. Do some conversions to TD from SQL Server, Oracle, IMS, or IDMS, all of which run with surrogate keys. At least
the SS ETL tools contain auto SK generating functions. Of course when any of those DBMS keys do a wholesale change, such as when downloading a
new data store, your ETL has to be all re-run to match up on the new suite of keys. This is not a solution email, but a facetious comment on the
fun and joy of working with SK's. | |
LOL. I don't know why I mentioned the Dual Active rather than a more down to earth scenario when data has to be compared between production and
test environments or between two test environments. As SK have no value whatsoever on any of them the tester is left with an exercise of finding
those genuine keys the SK architect did not have time to think about.
I probably forgot because our memory has that merciful property of erasing shocking experiences. Thanks for reviving them in the facetious
way.
