First of all, thanks for posting your story. Seeing a Teradata site going is always a big blow, even if you happen to live in a megalopolis
with a few TD clients around.
I am surprised NZ have put the lock on the documentation. Aren't they based on the open source technology as far as the core of their DB is
concerned? I hope the lock is not too tight. Otherwise, it would not be in the spirit of Open Source, not to mention the legal aspects.
You are probably very busy right now but maybe you could return and post your impressions in a few months or so? Especially if you may have
recommendations to the existing TD sites as to how they can prevent such migrations. If it's only about lower costs, then not much can be done,
but perhaps you can mention some technical aspects.
