I checked the archives and it would appear that we have not yet discussed this on the Forum. In the documentation, the statement comes with a
few pages of warnings and restrictions, which probably means that the scope of its usage is still testing environments.
Also, I understand that copying stats using this method is only possible if we copy the data at the same time. Moreover, all the rows in the
table, or, else, the cardinalities of source and target tables would differ and copying of the stats in such cases would not work. Not the most
economic way of doing this if data will have to be deleted afterwards.
