You cannot use a variable inside a Macro - it does not allow variable declaration.

You can however use a variable inside a Stored Procedure, but I don't get the problem that you are seeing with the Procedure. What exactly is the error that is reported.

SELECT in a BETWEEN is not supported (reason for syntax error).
