I have come across a curious issue when using EXPLAIN against a SELECT statement followed by a COLLECT STATISTICS statement.

I can successfully run an explain against the SELECT and I can successfully run an explain against the COLLECT STATISTICS but if I try to run an explain against all of it together then I get and error 3523: The user does not have INDEX access to ..(the database and table having collect stats collected).

However, if I put the COLLECT STATISTICS before the SELECT statement the explain works okay against it all.

Does anyone know of a particular reason for this?
