Another factor you may want to check is if they are making proper use of prepared statements...
Prepared statements are supposed to be "prepared" once and used again with different data values... (this is supposed to make things faster),
but most rookie JDBC programmers make the mistake of "preparing" it again and again before every execution ... that's like doubling your
performance problem...
Another point to ponder.
