My understanding has always been that Tperf ratings are simply a way to compare the relative throughput capabilities of different Teradata
processing platforms. This metric is really more akin to an abstract benchmark of the processing capacity of a TD system that allows one a way to
discuss the relative processing improvements in newer generations of TD hardware platforms over prior ones. As such Tperf metrics are not really
useful for setting user performance expectations rather a way to compare the relative processing capacity of Teradata nodes of different hardware
vintages or configurations. While I remember asking Teradata about the details of how the Tperf ratings were generated several years ago but
unfortunately I do not recall any of the details of any follow on discussion about Tperf internals...
