No kidding! Actually, this would be a great opportunity for some intrepid software developer (Dave Wellman, maybe?) -- an interactive debugger
that simulates a SP. Then you could develop and debug the code before putting it in the database.

Don't know what you mean here. UDF's can return values, but you seem to be asking something else.
