Subj:   Re: Merging large volumes of data into large history tables

From:   Dan Linstedt

Don't forget:

1. Teradata is working on absorbing all functionality into SQL directly.

2. Even one "old" hardware box will slow down the entire system, i.e.: "the whole Teradata system is only as fast as the slowest machine" because of the load balancing and hardware. Upgrading hardware is as important as upgrading the database to take advantage of the new performance levels.

3. Hardware upgrades: things like dual and quad-core CPU's and improved bus speeds, and faster RAM have all made hardware much much faster.

4. Running SQL with "no-logging" will soon become an option, as mentioned - in some cases it's already been fixed as a reality.

5. Newer versions of Teradata RDBMS try to take advantage of newer/faster hardware, older hardware just can't keep up.
