collecting stat on table refreshes all the statistics evident on the table. I believe it makes a pass for each stat. I still like the idea of monitoring currentperm for pct chg to prevent needless overhead in collecting stats. If you refresh stats and it doesn't change the plan then the stat probably was still valid.
