What exactly is meant by incremental?

If you have activated permanent journaling then this is possible.

You can try reading the Archive and recovery manuals. (ARCMAIN)

But this is seldom used in datawarehousing environments.

Most of the customers use Netbackup or NetVault and these ultimately use ARC sctipts in the background.
